Message from the Conference Chairmen

Dear colleagues, researchers, policymakers, and engaged citizens,

It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you to the International Conference on Sentinel Systems and Environmental Health, to be held in Fez, Morocco, in November 2025. This gathering marks a significant milestone in fostering global collaborations to enhance environmental health monitoring, particularly in developing regions where the need for robust surveillance and early warning systems is most critical.

The theme of the conference, " Early Warnings, Stronger Futures: Enhancing Sentinel Systems and Strengthening Networks for Impact in Developing Regions" underscores the urgency of uniting expertise across disciplines, sectors, and borders. Environmental health challenges and occupational hazards in working settings demand collective action. Strengthening partnerships between researchers, public health authorities, policymakers, and local communities is essential to ensuring that sentinel systems are not only scientifically rigorous but also impactful in real-world settings.

This conference is proudly organized in the framework of the BIONET, an ambitious Erasmus+ CBHE project funded by the European Union, which serves as a strategic framework for our discussions. BIONET is dedicated to developing innovative, data-driven solutions for occupational health monitoring, with a strong focus on knowledge exchange between Europe, Africa, and other regions of the Global South. By fostering multidisciplinary collaboration, BIONET aims to build capacity of universities and health institutions, enhance technological innovation, and support evidence-based policies that improve health outcomes in vulnerable communities.

In the historic city of Fez, we invite you to contribute to this crucial dialogue. We hope this conference will serve as a catalyst for new research collaborations, policy advancements, and practical solutions that strengthen environmental health resilience worldwide.

We look forward to engaging with you in November 2025 and to collectively shaping the future of environmental health through innovation and partnership.

Best regards,

Prof. Dr. Lode Godderis (KU Leuven), Chairman, International Conference on Sentinel Systems and Environmental Health

Prof. Samir El Jaafari (FS-UMI), Co-Chairman
